In 2009, an unknown group attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, killing 7 people and injuring cricket team members. The Sri Lankans will no longer play cricket in Pakistan and have demanded that an alternative venue, such as in Abu Dhabi is arranged.
So, it is no surprise to learn, that once again, and citing security reasons (you can thank the Pakistan Taliban), the Sri Lankan team have once again turned down Pakistan’s invitation.
I do note that an Afghani team arrived in Pakistan on Monday to play Pakistan, but then I have never heard of an Afghan cricket team before now. Maybe the Afghans have nothing to fear from the Pakistan Taliban.
No other international cricket team has been willing to play cricket in Pakistan. Alternative venues, including a venue in New Zealand have been used instead.
It should be noted that I am no fan of the Pakistan cricket team anyway.
